The Eagles Athletic Club from Cairo, Egypt captured a historic title in winning the African Flag Ladies Cup last week at Zed field in El-Sheikh Zayed, defeating the Cairo Bears 33-30 in a shootout.

The game culminated a tournament that was ground breaking.

It was the first tournament of its kind ever held in Africa and featured not only three teams from that continent but also a team from the United States.

Held in collaboration with the Cairo Bears, the African Flag Ladies Cup featured the host Eagles as well as the Bears, the Moroccan Jaguars and the Philadelphia Phantomz.

The Eagles road to the title started with a solid 26-6 win over the Moroccan Jaguars which automatically qualified them for the AFLC championship game. The Cairo Bears then earned the other berth in the final by upsetting the visiting Phantomz from Philadelphia 14-6.

The Jaguars and Phantomz battled to decide third place with the Moroccan squad coming out on top 8-0, thus sending Philadelphia home winless.

The championship game went down to the wire with the Eagles holding off a stubborn Cairo Bears team for the win.
